Woodfin November
2003 Charlie Baker is a socially
phobic Englishman marooned by his friend Froggy in a Georgia fishing lodge. To
avoid interactions with the other guests, Charlie pretends to be a “foreigner”
who doesn’t speak English. The locals assume Charlie does not comprehend them
and speak freely in front of him. The unintended consequences are not only
uproarious but lead Charlie to uncover a scheme that puts him and his fellow
guests in danger. “The Foreigner,” by Larry Shue, won two Obie awards as well
as two Outer Critics Circle awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-
Broadway Production. |
