Elwood P. Dowd, a harmless inebriate, befriends a large yet invisible rabbit named Harvey, much to the embarrassment of his socially conscious sister Veta and her daughter Myrtle Mae. When Veta tries to commit Elwood to a sanitarium, however, she unwillingly becomes a patient herself. The play has "entertained audiences since ‘Harvey' first warmed the hearts of a war weary country," says John Woodfin, instructor of philosophy and liberal arts at Missouri S&T and director of the play. "Older audience members may remember Jimmy Stewart's performance as Elwood P. Dowd in the 1950 Academy Award-winning movie. ‘Harvey' is also appropriate entertainment for the entire family." |
