Theatre Minor and Curriculum

A minor in theatre requires a minimum of 13 hours comprised of the following courses:

  1. THE 141 - Acting One
  2. THE 42 - Stage Productions-Performers or THE 220 - Theatre Ensemble
  3. THE 43 - Stage Productions-Technicians
  4. THE 143 - Stagecraft

In addition to the courses listed above, the student is required to choose a concentration and complete the following, depending on the concentration choice:

Acting/Directing

  1. THE 241 - Acting Two 
  2. THE 341 - Directing
  3. THE 243 - Entertainment Design OR Music 11 - Individual Music Instruction

Technical Theatre

  1. THE 243 - Entertainment Design
  2. THE 241 - Acting Two or THE 341 - Directing

7617, Theatre 341, Directing (will be offered Spring 10, T/Th 9:30-10:45 am)
Catalog Description: This course studies the theories, technique, and approaches of directing for the stage, culminating in the preparation, rehearsal, and presentation of directing scenes.
Credit Hours: 3 hour lecture
Prerequisite: Theatre 141 (will be offered Fall 09, T/Th 3:30-4:45 pm)

7618, Theatre 141, Acting I (will be offered Fall 09, T/Th 3:30-4:45 pm)
Catalog Description: Covers Basic Techniques for comprehension of theory and practice of acting. Explores inner/outer techniques to create a role. Follows working steps to create performance of a fully realized characterization. Designed as an introductory course.
Credit Hours: 3 hour lecture
Prerequisite: none

7619, Theatre 241, Acting II (will be offered Spring 10, T/Th 3:30-4:45 pm)
Catalog Description: Continuation of Acting I, covering acting styles, more complicated, nuanced roles, and more detailed character analysis and performance - Special emphasis on Shakespearean performance.
Credit Hours: 2 hour lecture, 1 hour lab, Total: 3
Prerequisite: Theatre 141

7620, Theatre 243, Entertainment Design (will be offered Spring 10)
Catalog Description: Students will learn the fundamentals of design for live theatre, film, theme parks, clubs, concerts, and dance events.
Credit Hours: 1 hour lecture,  2 hour lab
Prerequisite: none
