Miner Marching Band

Open to all students, no audition required.
Tuesday- Thursday — 4:00 to 5:45
Extra rehearsals on Friday of football weekends.
The Miner Marching Band will perform for all home football games with exciting music planned. If you thought that you wouldn’t have time for marching band or think you have a class or lab conflict, talk to us - we will work with you.

Marching Band Trumpets and Trombones
Since range and tone quality will be the determining factors, it will be to your advantage to come in good playing shape, especially if you would like to play 1st part! Part assignment will be made by Dr. Miller.
Marching Band Percussionists
The Miner Marching Band Drum Line consists of snares, quads, tonal bass drums, cymbals, and pit players. All assignments will be made before the conclusion of band camp. Auditions (for part assignments only–not admission to the band) will be necessary only if there are more players for a particular instrument than spots available. All sticks and mallets will be provided for you, free of charge.

A Note from Your Drum Majors
Hey, Band!
Are you ready for another exciting season with the Miner Marching Band? We are, and if you are not excited yet, you will be soon. Marching band camp is just around the corner, and what a season awaits! We have got a core of returning members who are second to none, a plethora of new faces, and a slew of new ideas to keep us motivated and ready to go.
First of all, let us introduce ourselves.
My name is Linda Keeney and I’m an English Education senior from Kansas City. This will be my fourth year as drum major, and I am looking forward to another awesome season. Besides conducting, I also play flute and piccolo and enjoy long walks on the beach. ?
And my name is David Meyer. I just got back from an exciting season of hiking at Philmont, a Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico. This will be my first season as drum major, and I have a lot of new ideas that I’m just itching to try. In band when I’m not conducting I play a mean trombone.
We have a few tips to make band camp more enjoyable for everyone. As you prepare for camp, remember the following:
1) Bring H2O - the humidity is almost dense enough to drink, but not quite.
2) We do not want to see you toes (or your stomach for that matter).
3) Got Water (insert water mustache here)?
4) White reflects, black absorbs.
5) Sunscreen is your friend.
6) You're never fully dressed without a smile!
We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones! See you soon!

Marching Band Color Guard
There is no audition required to become a member of the Miner Marching Band Color Guard, provided you have had high school (or other) experience. Novices should contact the director before band camp begins. Students interested in becoming a member of the Color Guard should plan on attending all camp rehearsals, including times listed as music rehearsals and the first meeting on August 14 (see the camp schedule elsewhere in this newsletter). There will be a special meeting for all color guard members following the first meeting.
